'The club came into existence in 1965 as the Grimsby College of Technology Climbing Club. For some years, the title of Grimsby Mountaineering Club, was used. However, the present name has been adopted since 1984 as it more clearly defines the activities of the majority of members. The club no longer has any formal connection with the College. There are currently around 200 members drawn from a wide range of occupations and age groups.'
