High Ongar through Willingale Circular Walk
'A pleasant walk in Essex with extensive views over central Essex. It takes in the unusual "twin Churches" of Willingale. Be prepared for some parts of the walk to be a bit muddy and overgrown at some times during the year.'
'Whilst not unique, two churches in one churchyard is a rarity. St. Andrew’s church which is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust was built before 1130 AD. The church of St. Christopher’s is now used for all regular worship and dates from around 1200AD but there is evidence in legal papers that a wooden Saxon church was previously on the site. The existing building has been "improved" by succeeding generations from the 14th century to the Victorian age. Currently there is a project to restore the bells of St. Christopher’s which is largely being carried out by volunteers within the community.' [From 'A Church Near You']
