'Chobham Common is famed for its walks and views. In 1968 the Common was purchased by Surrey County Council from Lord Onslow for £1 an acre. Approximately 1400 acres are now managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust who employ a fulltime ranger complete with a distinctive vehicle.'

'An important fragment of the once vast Bagshot Heath, stretching to Bracknell and Windsor. The Country Park area has a recorded history going back to saxon times. The main road linking Chertsey Abbey and Frimley Priory skirted the base of High Curley hill. The area was called "whit heke mere" (white, clear water, surrounded by grass), probably a reference to Hammond's Pond, and the source of the name of the nearby village of Lightwater.'

'In the early 1980s, the Windlesham Society's Footpath and Bridleways Sub-Committee set to work to produce a series of walks leaflets.  The aim was to record every footpath and bridleway in the Civil Parish of Windlesham (which includes Lightwater and Bagshot) through a series of circular walks which almost everyone could enjoy.  They ranged in length from just over a mile to four and a half miles ...'
