The Dulais Valley 'is one of the famous "valleys" of the south Wales coalfield. It was a dynamic mix of farms and mines, terraced cottages and welfare halls, choirs and bands - many of which can still be seen. Coal was the fuel of the Industrial Revolution and high quality Welsh coal powered ships, trains and factories around the World. During the 19th and 20th centuries thousands of men worked the difficult anthracite seams beneath this valley. But the valley's story did not start with coal. Bronze Age farmers, Roman soldiers and medieval monks have all left their mark here ...'.
